What I Bought at Gohan Market
Japanese Snacks, Drinks & Everyday Finds
This Gohan Market haul included a mix of Japanese snacks, convenience foods, drinks, and a few unexpected finds. One of my favorite things about visiting international markets is discovering products with cute packaging and unique flavors. Here’s everything I picked up on this trip.

easy meal
1. Hokkaido Style Shrimp Miso Ramen
This instant ramen immediately caught my attention because of the rich shrimp miso flavor and cozy packaging. I expected it to be spicy, but the broth was actually very mild and comforting instead.
The flavor was savory without being overpowering, which made it feel more like an easy everyday meal rather than an extra spicy ramen challenge.
I also loved how quick and simple it was to make.
✔️ Worth it? YES
I would definitely buy this one again for a quick lunch or cozy evening meal.

drink
2. Strawberry Ramune Soda
Ramune drinks are one of the most recognizable Japanese sodas, and this strawberry version looked too fun to pass up. The marble bottle design always makes these feel nostalgic and collectible.
I also love opening Ramune bottles — the marble top makes them feel more interactive and playful than a regular soda.
✔️ Worth it? YES
This one has a sweet strawberry flavor and would be really cute for a picnic, snack board, or themed movie night.

SNACK
3. Hokkaido Milk Bread Pastry Roll
I’m always drawn to soft packaged breads at Asian markets, and this Hokkaido milk bread roll looked especially fluffy. Hokkaido-style breads are known for being soft, rich, and slightly sweet.
After trying it, I honestly loved it even more than I expected. It wasn’t overly sweet, and the texture was super moist, soft, and flaky at the same time.
✔️ Worth it? YES (would absolutely buy again)
Now I want to try more flavors because this one felt like the perfect easy breakfast or afternoon snack with coffee or tea.

SNACK
4. Strawberry Chocolate Candy
The strawberry packaging instantly sold me on these little chocolates. Japanese candy packaging is always so playful, and I love trying seasonal strawberry flavors whenever I see them.
After trying these, I completely understood why people get obsessed with Japanese snacks. They were sweet, crunchy, and honestly a little addictive.
✔️ Worth it? YES (I wish the bag was bigger)
I could easily see myself buying these again because they disappear way too quickly. These would also be really cute in a gift basket or snack tray.

SNACK
5. Onigiri Rice Ball
I also picked up a packaged onigiri, which is one of my favorite quick grab-and-go foods from Japanese markets. They’re simple, filling, and easy to eat for lunch or a snack.
The packaging is always interesting too because it keeps the seaweed crisp until you open it.
✔️ Worth it? MAYBE
For the price, this one was decent, but I wish it had more filling inside. The rice-to-filling ratio felt a little off, so I’m not sure I would buy this exact flavor again.

beauty
6. Japanese Foaming Face Wash
I also picked up this Japanese foaming face wash with soft pink packaging. One thing I love about Japanese beauty products is how simple and gentle they often feel compared to heavily scented products.
After trying it, I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and lightweight the foam texture felt. The scent is very light, which I personally prefer for everyday skincare.
✔️ Worth it? (gentle and surprisingly long-lasting)
Even though the bottle looks small, a little goes a long way because the foam pump dispenses the perfect amount each time.
I also looked into the brand afterward and was surprised to learn it has been around for a long time, which made the product feel even more trustworthy.

snack
7. Panda Can Bread
One of the most unusual things I found was this Panda Can bread. The packaging immediately caught my attention because it looked more like a cute collectible drink than bread in a can.
After opening it, though, the experience was definitely interesting. The bread had a very strong yeasty smell — even stronger than I expected as someone who bakes fairly often.
✔️ Worth it? MAYBE
The texture was soft and slightly sweet, with a few raisins inside, but overall the flavor felt surprisingly mild and almost a little bland for the price.
I still think the concept is really fun, and the packaging alone made it worth trying once. They also had a few other flavors, so I’d probably try another version in the future out of curiosity.

Garden
8. Kitazawa Seed Company Pepper Seeds
One unexpected find was this packet of Japanese hot pepper seeds. I love gardening and finding unique plants or seeds that feel a little different from what I normally see at regular garden centers.
There’s something especially exciting about finding foods you can eventually grow and cook with yourself.
✔️ Worth it? YES (unique find)
I also really liked the vintage-style packaging, which made the seeds feel even more special and traditional.
This definitely made me want to come back and try more Japanese seed varieties in the future.

Most Surprising Find
Probably the strangest item from this trip. The packaging looked adorable on the shelf, but the flavor itself was much milder than expected. Still, it was fun trying something completely different, and I’d probably try another flavor out of curiosity.
